Bonaire 1/31-2/7 2009
Sixteen divers from the NYC and NJ Scuba Networks joined instructor Mark Cunningham for a week in "Diver's Paradise".
Folks got to do up to 5 days per day on this timely escape from the terrible NE winter. Sunny days, flat seas, warm water
and great vis!
When you think about it what else would you want?
Socorro Islands 4/14-4/23 2009
Thirteen of us left sunny Cabo San Lucas aboard the liveaboard SEA ESCAPE and ventured 22 hours to these unique and amazing
volcanic islands 250 miles off the coast of Mexico.
It was big animal heaven. Lots of sharks, including Whitetips, Silvertips, Galapagos, Silkies and of course Hammerheads
were everywhere. Couple this with almost constant whale sightings, dolphins, Tuna, and Giant Pacific Manta Rays and you have
an unforgetable experience . As one of the boat's divemasters put it "Some folks like to watch Animal Planet, we choose
to live in it".
In addition to the diving, the boat, the crew, and the food were all top notch and a great time was had by all! We hope
to do this trip again soon.
Sea of Cortez 10/18-24 2009
The day we left, Hurricane Rick, a category 5 storm, threatened the Baja peninsula. Fortunately, it chose to go somewhere
else and had little effect on our trip. Except for one windy day we had calm seas and great diving. Forty
eight divers from the LI/NJ area accompanied group leaders Rick Maxwell, NJ shop owner, and Martha Katz,Long
Island shop owner to La Paz, Mexico ( Capital city of Baja California Sur). We stayed at the Club Cantamar on the Sea of Cortez.
And yes, we saw Whale Sharks as well as Hammerheads, Sea Lions,Dolphins,Finback whales, and schools of fish so thick they
actually impaired visibility. We dove 3 tanks a day and in the evenings we ate and drank in La Paz's finest
establishments, where much group bonding occured. We owe thanks to divemasters Pedro, Edgar, Chucho, and Jonathan for
showing us Baja's best spots both below and above the water! If you have never been diving in the Baja you have to join
us next trip.
Cozumel 12/6-12/11 2009
The last trip of the decade provided our group of 14 divers with memories to last far into the future. Once again our
hotel and dive operator treated us like visiting royalty and the diving was spectacular. The reefs continue to regain their
pre-hurricane Wilma form and the conditions during our stay were perfect. Warm, sunny days, crystaline warm water and perfect
diving conditions were our constant companions. At night we hit our usual array of terrific restaurants and night spots. We
celebrated Cesar's birthday at Casa Denis and had a great evening at La Choza with the group from Paul Bardo's Ocean Horizons. As
usual the only bad part of the trip was leaving this wonderful island that seems like our second home! Our Facebook page
is crammed with pictures of our trip. Check it out at Scuba Network New Jersey.
